Change the default view TBX starts with when creating a new document

If there a convenient way to ask TBX to start a new document in a specific view (outline, map etc)?

Thanks.

I would create a new file and change the window to what I want to see, then name and save the (mostly blank) file. Thereafter simply double-click on that file and Save As..

Or use a stationery file approach, via the built-in favourites folder: see favorites folder.

As has need noted, there is no app preference that controls the number or type of tab view in a new note. It is always 2 tabs (Map and Outline) and the map view tab is always active on first use. Thus the suggestions here and above are the most practical way to address your issue.

FWIW, for support/consulting work I’m almost invariably using Outline view (definitely best for action code/export work). I just open a new doc, click the Outline tab and work: I don’t worry about the other tabs.

Background (i.e. non active tabs) aren’t evaluated so part from a tiny amount of view configuration data, they are no train on your use of the app. Quite the reverse, as all views run off the same notes tab switching gives a very rapid way to view the same notes in a different view pane visualisation.

@mwra Thanks for the stationary tip and reference.

It is not a big deal because as a “keyboard man” witching between option-cmd-o and option-cmd-m (don’t forget the option part  ) is part of muscle memory nowadays. Nevertheless it felt a bit off needing to do this every time opening/creating a new TBX document, hence the question.

I’ve two different working modes, so to speak: associative/creative, not knowing the resulting structure beforehand, I like the map best. But when I’m firing on all cylinders working on pre-existing knowledge and experience setting up document structure, consulting interview, meeting notes, and work package descriptions (“order of operations”), I prefer to use the outline.

Again, thanks for the stationary tip!

Shortcuts: Cmd+Opt+[ (previous) or Cmd+Opt+] (next) cycles focus between the current document windows in-doc tabs. So, you can navigate in-doc tabs as well as/instead of switching view types, though all work: there’s no ‘right’ way!

See Reverse Look-up Map for a full list,
