I’m continuing my experiments with the Guadi view. This evening I wanted to take advantage of ‘copy view as image’. When I open Preview with ‘new from clipboard’ I get a blank page. Additionally I note that this menu option is disabled as soon as I select a single tile in the view. To recover from this I switch away to a different tab and back which reenables the option. Is ‘copy view as image’ supported for this view ?
I don’t see the menu option enabled for Gaudi view which suggests the feature isn’t enabled for Gaudi view and the option being enabled for you is a glitch. My notes on this† suggests it works for most views except Attribute Browser view, but those notes are old as views have been added since. FWIW, the feature was originally added to address use of Map view data. Pending a clarified confirmation from @eastgate, my hunch is it breaks down like this:
- View supported for export as image: map, outline, chart, treemap, timeline
- View not supported for export as image: attribute browser, hyperbolic, crosstabs, table, gaudi, information city
Note that as Gaudí view never overflows the view pane (unlike some other views) it is easy to use a normal screen grab tool to copy the view pane contents. For views like Map view this is not always the case and thus the feature.
Note to self: per-view support for copy image needs clarification.
†. Sorry my web server is down ATM so the link to that aTbRef article may not work at present.
Edit ▸ Copy As Image wasn’t meant to be enabled in Gaudí View, but (as you observe) is sneaks in when there”s no selection.
It is actually a fine idea to support this, and we likely will add it in the next release.
