Longtime TBX user, new experience today. In a note (perhaps eight layers below root) in a new note, started a list. So far so good. Entered text for #1 through 4 OK. Decided needed a sentence in the note ABOVE the first note. Placed cursor at start of #1 on first line and hit Return. Got a new line above what had been top line of the note. Now the mystery: when typing, characters appear inserted at left end of string, not right end. Example: I typed “Plan” and got “nalP”. Tried backing up and running again but get same result.
Searched the Forum but found nothing.
Am running TBX 10.0.2 (b693) and macOS 15.2.
I know aspects of the outlining functions are handled by macOS. Have I encountered a “feature” from that realm? Or perhaps I exceeded the number of permitted levels?
I’m fairly confident that you somehow, accidentally, set the text direction to right-to-left. That can happen, for example, if you choose a right-to-left language on the menu bar. I expect there are some other possibilities for doing that as well.
If text-direction was flipped, it was inadvertent and not realized.
Backwards is good. As a kid, we called each other by our names in reverse. I was salguoD, say “sal-gwud”. Some are easier than others. But was good way to denote “our” crew.
As for immediate issue, one of the beauties of TBX is the wealth of ways to solve a problem. Sure I can find a pony somewhere in the barn.
They might have been, but they aren’t. Tinderbox relied on Carbon until Tinderbox 6, so in practice it didn’t have access to NSOutlineView. In fact, the original Tinderbox release was for System 9!
Some demands on the Tinderbox outline view were beyond what the system outliner can handle. That might not be true today, but even today we’re more malleable having our own code base.
