Forever Notes (Organizational Structure)

Spotted this in my feed yesterday. It’s an organizational structure for using Apple Notes, but the concepts seem relevant for any note-taking app, including Tinderbox. May offer some inspiration or stimulate ideas.

I read that ✱ Post a few days ago, and then re-read the Overview page and chuckled at the invitation “If you’re feeling overwhelmed by complex software”, because the author is suggesting a pretty complex structure, too. It is an interesting approach, I agree with @dmrogers. Though I wonder if it is ever possible to commit to a regime of recurring note taking and not soon find oneself facing the need to manage complexity.

For example, Jillian Hess posted an article on her Substack today about “Emerson’s Tips for Finding Notes”, the analog challenge that Matthias Hilse intends to solve digitally with ✱ Forever Notes. Emerson’s solution was to write, read, re-read, re-write, re-read, index, re-index, re-write one’s notes with determination. He maintained a 400-page notebook indexing all his other notebooks. No more complex than “complex software”.

The point – find what works, keep at it, revise, repeat.
