Getting into Tinderbox 11 as an "old" Tinderbox user

I’m not new to Tinderbox (think I started using it in 2004), but haven’t been an active user for several years. I think it got into the background for me since version 8 or so. So my main question is, where should I start again? What do I need to know to adjust my old ways to new ways of working? Which new features should I check out first?

I have two intended uses for Tinderbox. One is research (collecting and organizing data, and then writing). The other is to generate html for a static website/blog.

For now, I see two reasons to get back to Tinderbox: (i) the Zotero-integration and (ii) the ability to organise information in a more visual way (which is something I miss in Obsidian).

Where should I start? What should I read first?

Welcome back! As you reference v8, I’d note:

  • Gaudi (v10), Information City (experimental, v11) and Table (v9.7) views are all new since then.
  • Hyperbolic view has improved significantly since its v7 start.
  • Map view added Posters (in v9.6) which essentially allow you to have note that functions like a picture adornment but where the contents is actually a rendered webpage. Great for things like network charts—if you have the needed.
  • Looking at per-version Eastgate release pages, see Version release vendor URLs, may also give a feel for changes.
  • Action code continues to get stronger and wider is its range of operators.
  • Export code is little changed (bar the odd bug fix). But things you can do in-template using ^action()^ and variables have increased.
  • aTbRef now has its own domain at https://atbref/com. It still includes all the old aTbRef sites based on older Tinderbox versions.

So, export should not have changed and you old templates should work but you may now be able to do things you could not in the past.
