I am watching some videos about TB, and it seems that it would work well with my way of organizing ideas. I often have my iPad with me, not my MacBook. To my understanding, it is relatively easy to jot down things in apps that will then flow into TB. How about the other way around? Are there ways to read TB files and/or notes from an iPad or an iPhone?
The most common approach is to export to HTML: you can read HTML anywhere. Or, you might export to a folder of plain text (or markdown) files, which you could use with all sorts of iPhone software.
I would create a basic folder:Container structure in Obsidian and maintain a low-level facsimile there. Obsidian is markdown-based, so you’ll be working largely text-based. The advantages include great sync, iOS/PadOS/MacOS interoperability, and you can throw in some Watched Folders to complete the circle.
I don’t use Tinderbox for projects that are going through a phase where I need to take and curate a block of notes while using mobile devices heavily. When I get past that phase, and I am ready to focus my work in the Mac and Tinderbox, then I will move the notes into Tinderbox and go into the next phase of working in Tinderbox exclusively.
I know many users are very adept at export, including HTML export. I tired of that struggle several years back when apps like Obsidian came along and needing to include export tasks in my daily work and struggle with HTML weirdness was no longer necessary. For Mark, Michael and others who are the Tinderbox export adepts this is not a criticism, just my personal choice not to bother my time with Tinderbox export.
Note: You can then have Tinderbox watch Obsidian using “Watch Folders.”
Also, per Paul’s comment on RE export, I understand that the effort to learn it can sometimes outweigh the perceived benefits. Still, like anything, when you find the value-to-effort ratio balances out for you, templates are excellent. Not only can you export content out of Tinderbox in nearly any form you want, you can also use them to create new views for yourself to help you with your “thinking in Tinderbox.”
You could try setting up a stamp that will export TBX notes—by using a template that exports your notes in Markdown syntax (we’ve held several meetups on this)—to a container in your obsidian fault. This WILL NOT create a sync scenario but will allow you to view those notes in Obsidian.
