News from ACM Hypertext: Tools for Thought

The 26 September meetup discussed Mark Anderson’s paper at Hypertext ’26 on “The Future is Not What It Used To Be: Hypertext, Note Taking, and Tools for Thought.”

I think this pairs intriguingly with a paper by David Millard (Univ. of Southampton) on " Permanently Under Construction: Hypertextual Friction in an AI-Augmented Zettelkasten. Millard reports on an experiment, using Claude to guide Obsidian in gathering research notes and assembling them into a conference paper. He uses Obsidian but could easily have used Tinderbox, so everything here resonates with Tinderbox use. It’s a very good and thoughtful paper that repays close reading.

If I can find a spare moment, I plan in the next few days to highlight a few other papers from this year’s conference that may interest the Tinderbox community.

I just wanted to say how much I appreciated your email newsletter “Computing is a Humanism” and the link to Millard’s paper.

I’m a big stan of Christopher Alexander, which is one of the reasons I like Tinderbox. It is the only tool I know of where you can create and visualize well-formed semi lattice structures.
