Set up document for optimal use of Table and Attribute Browser View

Seeking advice. What are the suggestions for optimal setup of documents for use in Table and Attribute Browser views?

Rather broad question. Could you explain more about your data and project(s), without disclosing sensitive information.

Generally, a strategy for metadata (i.e., attributes), both system and user, for your notes is the key for both those views. In other words: what metadata elements do you need to ensure your notes are robust and meaningful, are you able to capture the metadata consistently for all the notes, and do you have in mind some concrete “reports” to view and explore your notes’ metadata.

That said, Table view in my experience works best when I have conceived an idea of what I want a report to look like – which notes, which metadata, etc. That is also a valid approach for the Attribute Browser (AB), but AB is also great at doing what-if slicing and viewing your notes on the fly.

Anyway, if you have some test or sample data to share in a .tbx file that might help the conversation.

Thank you Paul Walters. Looking at your paras 2 and 3, I have decided to revisit carefully my metadata (key attributes). Some sloppiness there.

@PaulWalters makes good points. You might think of Table View as a mini spreadsheet in a few other conditions. As all views rely on the same underlying data, it helps to think about the kind of insights you want to generate and the type of data you have.

Take a look at this sample file. I created synthetic data (notes with populated attribute values) around companies and represented the data in all 10 Tindebox views. Hopefully, you and others will find this helpful.

This is remarkably helpful, @satikusala. Thank you for this.

Has there been a Tinderbox meet-up as of yet where you showcased all those 10 Views?

i guess a demo-TBX-file like this will be of some help not only for tbx-beginners.

Thanks, I’m glad you’re happy.

We have done it piecemeal before in meetups.

I’m starting to formalize the educational process more, in my Mastering Tindebox school, as producing, teaching, and supporting the material (including the zip csv file of the companies) takes incredible time and resources (e.g., apps and tools subscriptions).

This is very helpful. Am most grateful.
