Tbx 11 and AI integration - are there any tutorials (video) on the basics of how to leverage AI in tbx

Hello,
I have tbx 11. I learn it integrates AI. I have enabled AI integration.

Is there a simple tutorial or video tutorial on the basics of tbx AI integration?

Thanks!

Not yet. But there’s a chapter in Tinderbox Help that should be clear. Feel free to ask questions here.

@eastgate Thank you! I have now read the chapter in tbx help and the hint on AI. Still not sure how AI works with tbx.

I have Claude Desktop and I in tbx I have enabled AI.

If for example, I wanted to find out notes with greater than 500 words, how can I go about finding them using AI?

Thank you!

  1. Tinderbox ▾ Enable AI Integration
  2. Open the document you want to work with
  3. Document Settings:General:Enable AI Integration In This Document
  4. Quit Tinderbox. Quit Claude Desktop if it’s open.
  5. Open Claude Desktop.
  6. Ask Claude if it can see it’s Tinderbox Readings. (You may want to add a note about Tinderbox and Readings to your profile)

Ask Claude which notes have more than 500 words.

This is not an ideal example, because in this case using an agent would have been easier. But you could also ask Claude for notes which mention firms listed on the NYSE, which would be tricky to do with an agent.

@eastgate Thank you! The ‘profile’ that you are referring to -, is that in Claude?

Is ‘reading’ a note in ‘Hints’?

Thank you

  1. All this stuff is in the Help chapter.
  2. /Hints/AI/Claude/Readings is a container that holds notes that Claude should review at the start of each session. You should check that Claude has done so. You should also be familiar with the texts of these notes, which you can extend as needed.
  3. /Hints/AI/Claude/Notes is a container intended for notes that Claude makes for its future use. You may want to encourage Claude to take notes consistent with your style.

@eastgate Thank@eastgate@eastgateThank@eastgate Thank you very much! I will. Exciting possibilities. Make start!

I believe I have followed the instructions with respect to enabling AI integration within Tinderbox, opening and closing and re-opening Tinderbox and Claude, but when I go into the Document Settings: General in my test document, the “Enable AI Integration inthis document” checkbox is greyed out and non accessible. What have I missed?

Are you sure that you have selected the menu Tinderbox ▾ Enable AI Integration? (Once selected, the menu should change to Disable AI Integration).

The document settings button is disabled when AI integration is disabled throughout Tinderbox

Yes, I have toggled it back and forth several times now. And yes, I am using 11.0.1.

Ah! it is now visible and I have just enabled it within the document. Now, my adventure continues!! thank you.

My adventure with Claude hit a snag. Here is Claude’s summary of what happened:
This is clearly a promising new feature that just needs some refinement to work properly. The fact that Claude desktop automatically opened Tinderbox and I can detect the document shows the foundation is there - it just needs the bidirectional communication to work.

When you report to Eastgate, you might mention:

  • Claude can detect the document and notes exist

  • Commands return “OK” but don’t actually modify the document

  • Claude cannot read note text content (the $Text attribute appears empty)

  • Claude cannot read other attributes even after they’re populated

  • Note creation commands appear successful but notes don’t appear

I will watch for additional actions to successfully integrate Claude with Tinderbox. This is great!

As above, it would help a lot to know what commands Claude sent to Tinderbox. There’s a subtle expansion triangle for each attempt to use a tool. For example:

Here, we can see that Claude began with the get_notes tool looking for the Readings container, and this was OK.

Great! I didn’t know you could share chats.

Taking it from the top: we’re very conservative about opening files. Claude cannot open documents; you have to open documents for Claude. So, the first thing Claude tries is to get the document Test AI.tbx. This didn’t work (and here’s a case where Tinderbox might have helped Claude out a bit with a more informative error message).

Next, we’re trying to check that the document has one untitled note. This suggests to me that it does not have a Hints container, and so Claude has not done its readings and has no idea (or not much) how to use Tinderbox! But never mind; Claude makes a reasonable stab at a query: $Name.contains(""). Your untitled note is probably named “untitled” and so that won’t match. But I can’t really fault either Tinderbox or Claude on this one.

The rest: I don’t see the problem at first glance. Can you share the test document?

I did. I emailed it to info@eastgate.com

Yep: I’ve already replied.

Here is the start of my chat: it seems to behave reasonably. I’m using b740 which is newer than the current release, but I doubt that is a factor.

Bonjour. Merci.

Hello. I’m having trouble learning TBX and I’m very hesitant to buy it because I can’t find a way to get the menus in French. This is really preventing me from exploring its possibilities. Is there a function to get the menus in French? If not, is it planned? Thank you.
