Text view Links Panel sorting

Hi,

Do we have any control over the sorting of the links under the columns in the Links Pane?

Use case: I’m starting to use Tinderbox for language learning. I collate new vocab (using a combination of zip links and a Keyboard Maestro macro) into new notes with links to the text. It would be useful to have the Links panel show the links in the order they are created in the text, so that I can read the text with the vocabulary listed below for easy reference:

NB: at first sight it looks like the sort order is the order the links appears in the text, but it isn’t (e.g. elw appears before cacwn in the text, but a couple of places below in the links panel).

Would I be right in assuming that the underlying attribute is a set and therefore the sort order is determined by the computer?

If so, if there isn’t a way of overriding this, could this be considered as a feature request, please?

As an aside, I create the new vocab notes with a combination of Tinderbox ziplinks and a Keyboard Maestro macro, so all I have to do is highlight the new word in the text, press a shortcut and fill in quick form with the definition, then paste the created ziplink back into the text, with the text of the source phrase unchanged, and the new note with a dedicated prototype.

This is incredibly useful… It took me a while to get it working, but if anyone’s interested enough, I could explain in another post, because it makes Tinderbox very flexible as a language learning tool.

I believe the current sort order is determined by the sequence of link creation. I agree that more control over the sort order would be useful.

For clarity, if the links pane uses order of creation (i.e. date/time for creation) to list links this differs for the Browse Links that lists (text) links in order of occurrence in text: Browse Links pop-over.

As far as I can tell, it’s broadly speaking in order of link creation (well, in order of the new notes’ creation date), but there are anomalies when some links are out of order, and I can’t quite work out what the difference is. As I go along, I’ll see if it becomes clearer.

The Browse Links panel, does report a slightly different order.

It’s not a huge problem at all of course, but if a customisable sort could find its way into a future version, that would be great – thanks again!
