The v10.0.0 release page on the Eastgate site: Tinderbox: Tinderbox 10

Excellent news - gaudeamus igitur, Modus Gaudius est natus!

(But just as a minor heads-up, the third paragraph on the Tinderbox 10 web page (Tinderbox: The Tool For Notes) still refers to 9.7:

Tinderbox 9.7 will be your personal information assistant.

HtH)

Thanks! Fixed.

Very pleasant surprise!

We discussed the updates in yesterday’s meetup: Tinderbox Meetup Sunday 13 Jul., 2024: Tinderbox 10 Review, Explode, and Each Line Stream Parsing.

Unexpectedly amazing, and resolves some issues I’d been suffering. Congratulations and thanks all round, @eastgate and @mwra!

(and marginally-related congratulations to Dr @satikusala!)

thanks for the update - Tinderbox keeps getting better and more amazing and the meetups and tutorials really help!

A minor question - is there a way to transfer the list of recently opened files from tinderbox 9 to 10?

thanks, Frederick

I’ve found this to be a blessing more than a challenge.

Officially: nope!

Unofficially — risky, and dependent on which macOS you have installed:

  1. In Finder, choose Go ▸ Go To Folder…

  2. Go to ~/Library/Application Support/com.apple.sharedfilelist

  3. The old file of Recently Opened files is named com.eastgate.tinderbox-9.sfl3

  4. The new file is named com.eastgate.tinderbox-10.sfl3

Again: this is not necessarily a good idea. As @DaveM suggested, cleaning this list every couple of years is not a bad thing, and the list will rebuild itself in a jiffy.

thank you! I’ll take a closer look at what I should do.

I would take a screenshot (Cmd-Shift-4) of the Recent Files Menu while in Tbx 9, and re-locate those project files in the Finder.

It’s a wonderful piece of software. But is the launch of TBX 10 time for a name change? There is another app with a similar name, and it’s not going anywhere.

Which app would that be?

Eastgate has produced Tinderbox for over 20 years. Why should it change the name? Should Apple Inc. change its name because some people think Apples are fruit?

Well, there’s Tinder. But Tinder is newer than Tinderbox, it’s not an exact match, and the lines of business are unlikely to cause confusion.

There’s Tinderbox, the US mall-store tobacconists. (Are they still around?). I think they still own the domain. Again, unlikely to cause confusion.

There used to be a Tinderbox package of Illustrator plugins. OK: more potential confusion than cigars, but not a lot.

There’s a Tinderbox Kitchen in Flagstaff. Who knew?

In my profession in Scotland, the name is a barrier to uptake. There is nothing wrong with getting out into the mainstream when you have something so good to sell. But small is beautiful, I suppose.

OK, but what is the competitor in Scotland and why is it a barrier? It would help the community if you were a little more forthcoming.
