In this Tinderbox Meetup, we explored strategies and tactics for learning Tinderbox. A new member introduced himself and discussed tech stack strategy—Tinderbox, DEVONthink, and markdown- to work on his doctoral dissertation. We uncovered steps and conceptual approaches that may help solidify one’s understanding that Tinderbox is a tool where “work gets done” (Paul Christy, 2024). The concepts we covered were 1) TBX file organization, particularly note types—scratch notes, writing notes, resource notes, and functional notes; 2) the framing of one’s problem statement. Win gave a great example around the structuring of a course; 3) the alignment of concepts, like the association of “printing” to “export," or that “export” is not just about getting things out of Tinderbox but is also a visualization tool to enhance your thinking, 4) the use of tinderbox to create elegant simplicity out of complexity, and more. Finally, we concluded the session with a presentation from Mark Bernstein, “The Amiable Stranger: globalization, artificial intelligence, & digital transformation.”
