The session began with a discussion of information overload and what digital knowledge-management systems might learn from libraries. Participants considered the role of classification, metadata, and the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative, while questioning why physical libraries often feel navigable but large personal digital collections do not. The conversation then shifted to a practical project: creating a private, locally operated workflow for converting meetup videos to audio, transcribing and diarizing them with WhisperX and Pyannote, and summarizing the transcripts with Ollama. Rather than forcing Tinderbox to manage every step, the group recommended building a shell script to run the pipeline and using Tinderbox to initiate the process and manage its outputs.

The broader discussion examined when AI supports thinking and when it begins to replace the productive struggle through which learning occurs. Examples included AI-assisted grading, software development, organizational knowledge transfer, digital twins, and healthcare systems. Participants emphasized human review, reliable backups, privacy safeguards, and limiting AI’s direct ability to modify important Tinderbox files. The session concluded that no single tool should do everything: Finder, DEVONthink, Tinderbox, command-line scripts, and AI each have different strengths. The real craft lies in choosing and combining tools deliberately while preserving understanding, creativity, relationships, and human agency.

Meanwhile, over on Reddit, the Dublin core also comes up: Working Archivist’s Song (parody of “I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General”)
