In this Tinderbox Meetup, we witnessed a tour-de-force demonstration of how Jacob Evans has developed an advanced email-management workflow using Tinderbox. Jacob showcased a macOS command-line tool—soon to be open-sourced and made available via Homebrew—that enables authors writing in Markdown to generate email-client-compliant messages for Apple Mail, Gmail, Outlook, and more. These emails support rich formatting, including headings, styles, bulleted lists, high-resolution inline images, Mermaid flow diagrams, tables, and beyond.

This is one of the most impressive Tinderbox workflows I’ve seen in quite some time. Mark Anderson also reviewed related work involving Markdown, Pandoc, and PowerPoint. The session concluded with a lively community discussion exploring the implications and possibilities opened up by these capabilities.

Well, as luck would have it, I’m about done with a beta version[1] of a Mac app that converts Markdown to HTML that’s email-safe.

Tinderbox can also make use of this functionality through the app’s bundled CLI:

If anyone here would like to participate in early TestFlights, DM me with your Apple ID email and I will add you.

  1. Meaning, the app is feature complete but likely has bugs ↩︎
