In this Tinderbox session, we covered the gamut. This turned out to be a foundational review of all things Tinderbox. Our discussion focussed on looping through notes using the .each() operator to build,

  • lists
  • standard tables
  • pivot tables
  • CSV files

We reviewed several other concepts and operators, including .count, .at(), variables, designators, simple logging, sum(), value(), ``, export code, action code, templates, creating an average, changing template names, attribute browser, export note, export attribute browser, convert rtf to txt with TextEditor.

A huge takeaway from this session was the value of incremental formalization, including the idea of starting with small projects and working your way up. Throughout the session, we made several intended and unintended mistakes as we wrote our action code and templates. This served us well as they were a wonderful tool for exploring the Tinderbox learning and knowledge management process.

Great video meetup & lesson! This was the first time I “got” the connection between notes and export code and templates.

How about spending a session just on a simple set of notes viewed in each of the Tinderbox Views, and the analytical benefits of each, followed by how action code could be used to extend each View?

You got it!!!

This was an excellent review of export code and building tables. Thank you MichaelB
For those still learning export code like me, lots of goodness here.
