In this meetup, we explored general and Tinderbox-specific strategies for discovering information and insights within and across your “notes” in one more Tinderbox file, as well as across different applications (e.g., DEVONThink). Becker (@satikusala) kicked off the conversation by suggesting that there are two primary discovery categories: 1) intentional retrieval, and 2) unexpected insights discovery. The group that discussed their indivudal structured and unstructured methods and the specific Tinderbox utilities. Also, Peter Wasilko (@PeterWasilko) wanted to figure out how to pull metadata from PDFs. Becker walked him through how he could use the exiftool command-line app to accomplish this (exiftool also works for other types of media). Peter has committed to sharing his TBX runcommand and metadata parsing code with us, once he has integrated the commandline process into his workflow. Finally, Becker provided a brief overview of his use of Obsidian and TBX designators, how understanding them helps understand action code, and he gave an example of using them by demonstrating a presentation template he’s developed for Tinderbox.
