Tinderbox 9 behaves as if a new document has been created (the original notes and views do not appear).

Is there a way to obtain a copy of Tinderbox to use with older documents? 8.5 is the oldest version I can find at Tinderbox: Downloads .

I frequently use Tinderbox documents created with Tinderbox 1.

Tinderbox 9 was released 4 years ago, when the world was young. I don”t know why you think 8,5 is the oldest version you can find at Tinderbox downloads: there’s a complete run of Tinderbox 4, Tinderbox 5 (31 full releases!) Tinderbox 6, and Tinderbox 7. There’s Tinderbox 2 and 3 releases there too!

Good grief!

Thanks for the information.

When I visit Tinderbox: Downloads the two options are 11.7.0 and 8.5.

Navigating to https://www.eastgate.com/download/ does not bring up a list of the prior versions.

What version would you like?

If you can send me one of your documents, I ought to be able to diagnose the difficulty.

As a general point, the UI changed significantly between v5- and v6+. A file last used pre-v6 will:

  • not open an UI no longer supported, e.g. the v5 Locate view.
  • every open view window and every open note window will open as a full v6+ document window. This is confusing at first encounter until you realise the cause.

To see the pre-v6 behaviour you need to:

  • not open the document in v6+
  • use a client of version 5 or earlier (@eastgate can supply if no direct download link)

I have no record of what a newer document, or an old one opened in v6+, looks like if opened in an older version, but likely all the note windows will have become map view windows (i.e. a default windows default view.

Despite this, Tinderbox is impressive in its legacy support, even if the UI has changed to reflect modern needs (the OS itself has changed a lot.)

I frequently encountered this same problem and couldn’t fix it on Tinderbox 10 (and probably 9 but I don’t recall specifically). When I try to reproduce it on 11.6, the same old files open successfully.
