This Tinderbox meetup focused on using Tinderbox as a hub for AI-assisted knowledge work and automation. The group explored using Claude and Claude Code to review book chapters, check statistics and references, identify outdated examples, and suggest edits while keeping the human author in control. Michael (@satikusala) demonstrated a Tinderbox-based rubric system that calculates scoring, generates HTML and CSV output, and can be imported into Canvas—keeping the course structure and intellectual property outside the LMS.

A second major theme was connecting Tinderbox to external tools and local AI. Michael (@satikusala) demonstrated a Python workflow that takes an MP4 file, extracts the audio, transcribes it locally with WhisperX, summarizes it with Ollama, and is triggered from Tinderbox with a stamp. The broader takeaway was that Tinderbox does not need to do everything itself: it can serve as the organizing and orchestration layer while AI, scripts, APIs, and other applications perform specialized tasks. The group emphasized incremental automation, maintaining human judgment, and keeping control of one’s own data and knowledge.

  • Using Claude for editing and reviewing (00:00:31-00:08:45)
  • Creating a rubric methodology for teaching (00:01:46-00:02:01)
  • Using Python for automation (00:03:23-00:08:45)
  • Creating a CSV file from a template (00:20:48-00:23:03)
  • Importing the CSV file into a learning management system (00:23:14-00:23:26)

If you need more help with Tinderbox, come on over to the Tinderbox Forum, https://forum.eastgate.com/, a vibrant community with members the revel in helping each other. You’ll find every walk of life at the forum—academics, authors, musicians, engineers, scientists, artists, philosophers, lawyers, doctors, and more, who are all looking to use Tinderbox, and related apps (like DevonThink, TexExpander, Zotero, Pandoc, BBEdit, Highlights, etc.) to manage the 5Cs of knowledge-making and exchange (collection, curation, creation, and contribution). Ask your question and you will be answered. We also hold weekly meetups to discuss Tinderbox how-tos, strategies, tactics, share examples, and more.
