In this meetup, the Tinderbox community got together to discuss the basic collection and curation steps for effective note-taking and knowledge management.
We started with an introduction to note-taking from Mark Bernstein. We then did a deep dive into the process of note-taking through the lens of capturing notes that one might take while reading a book. We then quickly got into the use of prototypes and attributes to effectively tag (date, authors, citation keys, etc.), classify (e.g., a quote, a task, and ideas), and note management. We then discussed the use of action code to have Tinderbox automate critical text transformation tasks, as well as showed how Tinderbox aligns nicely with other tools, e.g., Zotero, DevonThink, SKIM, etc. The session concluded with the community recognizing that Tinderbox is one of the most versatile and yet specialized (i.e. text transformation) tools anyone has ever come across.
Next up, Oct. 15, 2022: Capture highlighted notes from PDF files and automatically pull them into Tinderbox.
