In this Tinderbox meetup, we reviewed several projects that various community members are working on.
Mark Anderson on Wikipedia Documentations
@mwra “I’m researching Wikipedia (bots) again - revisiting part of my Phd research. Doing a longitudinal study of bots and what they do, from the start of Wikipedia to date. Very messy data, so a good opportunity to look at the sausage being made. Pretty much everything in Wikipedia is less ‘standard’ than you’d imagine.”
Mark Bernstein’s new project
@Bernstein, “I’ve been working on a paper about Engelbart’s idea of hypertext for augmenting human intellect. So I’m looking for good sources on (a) getting along with augmented people, and (b) good reviews of recent thinking about animal cognition.”
Bruce Gale Projects (@bmgphd )
Bruce Gale Review Use of TBX for Expert Witness
Bruce has been using TBX for organizing his expert witness effort.
Exporting Highlights from PDFs
He has also been using it to capture notes from primary source documents. @bmgphd, @satikusala looked into it, and Nitro PDF will not support the extraction of highlighted text. Alterative apps to look at are Highlights and PDF Expert. See: Tinderbox Training Video 58 - Annotating with Highlights App, Tinderbox, DEVONThink, and Zotero
Peter Wasilko, custom domain-specific language for note-taking (developing own custom markdown)
Peter reviewed the development of his research markdown language for supporting his recursive research and resources. @PeterWasilko, per conversation, check out Tinderbox Meetup, Sat., Feb. 15, 2025 (Video): Developing Automatic Installers and Other Insights
Chuck Wade reviewed the development of Installer/Packaging through lends of his (Advanced Block Diagramming View)
@echuck did a deep dive into the development of his approach to a Tinderbox installer strategy.
Using ChatGPT and Tinderbox to Set Up Prototypes and Attributes (for Dungeons and Draffotns)
Michael Becker (@satikusala) reviewed a project he did with @Jake_Bernstein to have ChatGPT produce an ouput and then parse this output into prototypes and attributes.
Michael Becker (@satikusala) on Installer, Glossaries, Indexing, Numbers, Exporting to PDF and Word with Headers
@satikusala reviewed his version of the installer (ideally, as a computing, per the discussion, we could work together to come up with a reliable best practice/standard for reliably producing and maintaining installers).
In response to @archurhh question, becker showed how to use his exporting plug-in to export to PDF and MS Word with headers and footers.
Becker also reviewed a new plug-in he is working on to create glossaries, indexing, numbering (parts, chapters, sections, media (figures, video, tables).
